With much preparation to do before hand, staff and cadets from across the Wing have started initial training for their D of E Gold Award!
'Prepare early, prepare well' could easily be a motto for those who take on the the most challenging of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards - the Gold!
The first Gold Expedition Training Day in the Wing has taken place, with cadets from 1340 (Rhyl), 1465 (Gwynedd), 2247 (Hawarden) and 2480 (Holywell) Sqns undertaking a walk in Snowdonia to the summit of Crimpiau. These Cadets will need to complete a least two additional practice events before undertaking their assessed expedtion in August; this consists of 4 days walking and three nights camping in remote areas, and they will need to be completely self sufficient with the only items that are allowed to be replenished being water and dairy produce. Also pictured are Flt Lt Alicia French, OC 1465 (Gwynedd) Sqn, Fg Off Gary Ellis of 2247 (Harwarden) Sqn and Civilian Instructor Adam Roberts of 1340 (Rhyl) Sqn. The Gold Award is a fantastic challenge and experience, which results in learning many useful skills for life and the chance to recieve their award from the Duke of Edinburgh himself! |
